Birdies Raises a Series A, Launches Resort Slippers
You might question the viability a $100+ luxury slipper line in a struggling retail era, but for Birdies, good design, smart marketing, and a royal boost from a certain actress-turned-duchess has gone a long way. Last week, the San Francisco-based footwear company announced that it had raised $8 million in Series A funding, bringing its total outside investment to $10 million. This week, the company is showcasing its first resort slippers. NBD, right?
According to Fast Company, Birdies currently has a waitlist of 30,000, and its sales were up 400% in 2018. (It’s on track to reach five times year-over-year growth in 2019.) If you want to score the brand’s latest designs before joining thousands of other fans in shoe-lover purgatory, you best head over to the Birdies website, stat. Resort styles include both the open-toe Sparrow ($95, above), and the closed-toe Ani, ($120). Both styles are expected to ship on January 31.
